What you need to know

A workplace assessment is a structured session during which I observe and evaluate postural and movement patterns that may be causing discomfort, tension or limitation in the staff members' day to day. Each person leaves with something practical and personalised to take away, as well as guidance on how to move forward.

While standard ergonomics looks at the environment, my focus is on the individual bodies and how they function in their environment.

According to CIPD, musculoskeletal conditions are consistently one of the top causes for employee absenteeism in the UK. Most of these conditions do not appear suddenly; they develop gradually through asymmetrical postural habits and compensation that goes unaddressed until they become a problem. Early identification and practical intervention can interrupt the process before it becomes costly absence. Employees who feel supported in their physical health also tend to be more engaged and present.

The two-tier (recovery) model is a structured approach to addressing musculoskeletal pain and movement restrictions. Following the assessment, the staff member may received a targeted intervention.

The takeaway:

1) a tailored exercise or mobility drill designed to be integrated into day to day activities and

2) a recommendation of a mid to long term strategy to ensure sustainable recovery.

I come into your workplace and see each staff member individually for a session that lasts approximately 40'. Each session begins with a brief health history taking to understand background, lifestyle habits and current concerns. This will be followed by a visual and palpatory (hands on) screening in order to identify asymmetries, compensatory patterns and areas of tension in the body. Based on these findings, I will offer specific recommendations to support progress.

Typically, I see 6 individuals in a full day, structured as two groups of 3 with a break in between. If your team is larger, we can discuss a multi-day format or a phased approach across several visits.

A quiet, private space with enough room for 2 seats and a yoga mat. I will bring all necessary equipment and materials.

No special preparation is needed. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. In some cases, you may be asked to undress to whatever level feels comfortable for you. Your comfort and privacy will always be respected.

The take away goal is "self sufficiency". After the session, everyone will receive practical exercises or recommendations tailored to the individual needs, along with a clear path forward if additional support or treatment is required.
